The Aloha Exchange Club of East Hawaii recently honored Detective Scott Amaral as one of two East Hawaii Officers for the Month for June.

Detective Jesse Kerr, who shares the award, was unable to attend the ceremony and will be officially honored at a later date.

The two Juvenile Aid Section detectives are being honored for helping the FBI locate a fugitive wanted in Colorado for kidnapping his 9-year-old daughter.

When the FBI received information that the man and girl might be on the Big Island, detectives Amaral and Kerr were assigned to provide assistance.

They helped track down the fugitive and his child in a small town in Texas within 11 hours from the time the two detectives received the assignment.

The man, Brian Kirk, was arrested, and his daughter, Brianne, was returned to her mother, the custodial parent.
